White, but not quite. The glaze on this vase occupies the territory between white and cream, between matte and barely luminous — a tone that shifts with the quality of the light in the room and changes entirely between morning and evening. It is among the most versatile pieces in Carme Balada's series, and among the most quietly ambitious.

The form is tall and spare, with a narrow neck that concentrates whatever is placed inside it: a single stem of eucalyptus, one branch of white blossom, a dried allium. It does not need much. It knows how to make the most of very little.

Hand-thrown on the wheel in her studio and glazed by hand, no two pieces emerge from the kiln identical. Variations in tone, surface texture, and the precise way the glaze breaks at the base are part of the work — not incidental to it.

Because every piece is made and glazed by hand, surface colour and texture will vary slightly between firings. What arrives is singular — a record of one specific moment in the kiln.
