Floor lamps cast light downward. The 1AG casts it outward — a globe of hand-pleated washi paper that diffuses light in every direction simultaneously, creating an ambient warmth that changes the character of a room rather than simply brightening it. This is the quality that Isamu Noguchi was after when he created the Akari series in 1951: light as atmosphere, not as utility.
Made by hand in Gifu, Japan. The 1AG stands independently on its tripod base and occupies a room with the quiet presence of an object that knows exactly what it is.
